About the Portfolio

The EMC Partner Application Portfolio is designed to quickly connect you with offerings that fit your specific needs. It's the one place where you can find offerings that have achieved the "Designed for EMC" designation. These offerings have been developed to meet or exceed open design standards for enterprise applications. Providers work closely with EMC to ensure that their applications, solutions, and integrations comply with these standards so that our customers can have the best designed, most upgradeable, and maintainable business solutions possible.

Value for Customers

The Designed for EMC program has been designed with you, our customers, in mind to ensure that you can find offerings that truly support your investment in the industry-leading EMC software. By looking for offerings that bear the "Designed for EMC" logo designation, you can identify applications that meet comprehensive criteria for good design, development, and implementation.

Customers that implement EMC solutions in their organizations are starting to insist on the quality and value behind the "Designed for EMC" logo. To earn the "Designed for EMC" designation, offerings must meet criteria in categories such as:

  • Data and configuration management
  • Development and customization
  • Documentation
  • Installation upgrade and removal
  • Performance and scalability
  • Security
  • Supportability and maintainability

By meeting these criteria, our partners are committing to you, our customers, that their offerings are not only currently well-designed and well-developed, but that they will continue to be easily maintained and able to be migrated in the future.

As you probably already know, inconsistent implementations pose a significant information technology (IT) challenge for organizations across all industries. By implementing "Designed for EMC" offerings across all departments of your organization, you can ensure consistency in all EMC applications throughout your enterprise. Some of our customers are even planning to use "Designed for EMC" specifications as a means of assuring that applications developed by their own IT teams employ the same best practices provided by "Designed for EMC" offerings.

Organization of the Portfolio

Every "Designed for EMC" offering is classified as an application, integration, or solution. Knowing the criteria used to discern the classification of an offering is of great value to customers endeavoring to quickly understand the nature of an offering. As a result, classification of offerings is clearly denoted in the Partner Application Portfolio.

Basic guidelines for determining how offerings are ultimately classified include:

  • Applications – Largely out-of-the-box products that are developed according to a defined product development process, require less implementation and configuration services than other offerings, and have standard documentation and some level of technical support.
  • Solutions – Repeatable service offerings that consist typically of custom development, based on a certain level of technology framework.
  • Integrations – Modules that link a stand-alone, third-party application with industry-leading EMC software.

Designations

All offerings in the Partner Application Portfolio bear one of following designations: "Designed for EMC Documentum," "Designed for EMC Smarts," or "EMC Compatible." Once offerings complete the accreditation process, they are distinguished by the "Designed for EMC" logo.

Designed for EMC

Designed for EMC – Offerings that bear this logo have completed the required evaluation and met important criteria as defined by the "Designed for EMC" specification. By selecting a "Designed for EMC" offering, you know that it meets the following standards at a minimum:

  • Developed for and correctly uses the EMC Documentum API or the EMC Smarts API.
  • Does not conflict with other applications based on EMC Documentum or EMC Smarts software.
  • Safely installs and removes.
  • Appropriately leverages EMC software facilities.
  • Employs best practices for component development.
  • Shows completeness befitting a quality application.

EMC Compatible – Offerings that bear this designation have been submitted to the Designed for EMC program and are in the process of earning the "Designed for EMC" designation. These offerings have been deemed compatible with EMC software by partners, but may not yet have met the requirements for receipt of the "Designed for EMC"accreditation. In most cases, the "EMC Compatible" designation means that offering providers are actively working with EMC to ensure their offerings meet all of the criteria in the "Designed for EMC" specification.

Optimized For

To help you identify offerings that meet special business needs, we recognize offerings that have been developed to higher standards. Offerings that have been "optimized" for one of the specialties listed below meet additional criteria beyond the "Designed for EMC" specification. Look for the "Optimized For" section in each offering's Application Details page.

Special designations include:

  • Internationalization – Denotes "Designed for EMC" offerings that are intended to be internationalized and that have demonstrated that their presentation and user interface layers can readily be localized into any language.
  • Documentum Web Development Kit / Webtop – Indicates quality "Designed for EMC" offerings that provide a user interface based on the EMC Documentum Web Development Kit (WDK) or EMC Documentum Webtop architecture, have been demonstrated to conform to WDK development guidelines, and avoid interference with other "Designed for EMC" offerings.
  • eRoom – Denotes quality collaboration "Designed for EMC" offerings that have been demonstrated to conform to EMC Documentum eRoom development guidelines and to avoid interference with other "Designed for EMC" offerings.

Designed for EMC Awards

The EMC "Designed for EMC" Offering of the Year Award recognizes the partner with the best "Designed for EMC" accredited offering built to complement EMC software. In 2007 Prodagio Contracts by Imagitek was selected as the Offering of the Year for having the highest platform use and revenue contribution.

Design Partners

Our Design Partners are working with us to incorporate application design guidance and development of best practices – as characterized by the "Designed for EMC" standard – into offerings that are currently under development. By working with us during the development process, they are working to achieve alignment with the EMC architecture and roadmap and are planning to release their products as accredited "Designed for EMC" offerings. Check the Partner Application Portfolio often for newly accredited offerings from our Design Partners.

How to Use the Portfolio

Offerings in the Partner Application Portfolio are organized as follows:

  • Profiles – Each offering in the Partner Application Portfolio has its own profile, which lists essential information such as supported servers and EMC software versions. As a result, you can easily identify offerings of interest to you, understand their functionality, and determine whether they meet your specific business needs.
  • Views – You can select the type of offering you would like to view along the navigation bar to the left of the Partner Application Portfolio. You can view details of any offering by clicking on the offering logo or name. You can also view all profiles in the Partner Application Portfolio by clicking on the "All Offerings" link at the top of the navigation bar.
  • More information – If you need more information on an offering, you can contact the provider directly by clicking on the "Contact Provider" or "Take the Next Step" e-mail links at the bottom of the offering profile.
